Winter weather makes for dangerous driving

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Emergency officials cannot stress to drivers enough to take caution on the road. As one man found out this morning, the snow and ice is no match even for an experienced driver.

Brian Wood’s SUV was sitting right side up near a ditch after spinning out and flipping over on US 74/76 near Northwest.

“I was just driving, I hit a patch of ice and started sliding and flipped,” Wood said. “Went down the ditch and flipped over.”

Wood was on his way home Monday morning after the industrial cleaning company he works for decided to call it a day because of the weather. The weather, though, left Wood cleaning up the mess caused by his scary moment behind the wheel.

Northwest Police say Wood’s crash was not the only they had seen Monday morning. The department received calls of several others in there area, but officers say Wood’s rollover was one that could have been worse.

As for Wood, he has some advice for drivers.

“Stay home,” he said. “Just stay home!”

Wood said he planned to spend the rest of the day inside and avoid driving until the snow and ice is gone.
