‘Retro Meadery’ to open next month in Burgaw

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — In May, WWAY told you about a new meadery that will be coming to Burgaw. We wanted to check in to see how the new business is coming along.

Retro Meadery will be on S Dickerson St., across from the historic Burgaw Train Depot. On Friday, the building passed its inspection ahead of ABC permitting to sell alcohol.

The space will offer locally brewed mead with a retro flair. The meadery will feature lots of things including arcade games, and old movies.

Mead is made by fermenting honey and is the oldest way to make wine.

Co-Owner Michael fields said he’s excited to share their mead with the community.

“Once we’ve got all of our equipment and everything, we’ll be able to go ahead and move it in, and be able to get all of our arcades and entertainment and everything here, that way we’re ready to open for a family friendly establishment,” he said.

The meadery was originally set to open in July, but the permitting process has delayed the opening.

Fields said they expect to open in around three weeks.
