Wilmington paddleboarder raising money to go to world paddleboard championships

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A standup paddleboarder from the Cape Fear is raising money as he prepares to represent Team USA at the World Paddleboard Championships in Denmark.

Campbell Carter is a 19-year-old from Wilmington.

He recently qualified for the world championships as he placed 2nd in distance and 2nd in technical races at nationals.

This will be the 3rd time Carter is going to the World Championships as he finished 9th overall in sprints at last year’s tournament, which was held in France.

To help raise funds, Carter is selling USA bracelets to cover expenses to go to Denmark to compete.

Carter said he’s psyched to be back on Team USA.

“About two years was my first time to go to World Championships,” Carter said. “I went and tried out at Nationals and I made the team and last year, I did as well. And this year is my third year going. So it’s kind of like a yearly thing now. I’m like, alright I got to train my hardest to work up to be able to compete at Nationals, qualify and then be able to go to worlds.”

The World Paddleboard Championships will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark from September 16th to the 22nd.
