Trinity UMC hosts block party to support New Hanover County students

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY)– Trinity United Methodist Church closed 14th Street from 11 AM to 2 PM for their third annual Book Bag Block Party.

This event featured a range of activities, including face painting, balloon animals, food, and free haircuts, all provided at no cost to attendees.

The centerpiece of the day was the distribution of donated backpacks filled with essential school supplies.

These backpacks were prepared for students in New Hanover County from elementary through high school.

Pastor Brock Meyer of Trinity UMC shared the event’s purpose: “We wanted to support families and teachers and also create a moment of joy before school starts. This event truly reflects the entire community coming together—the church, the community, the school—all sharing love with one another, and that’s why we do it.”

In total, 624 backpacks were distributed to children in New Hanover schools, each donated by community members.

These donations ensure that students are well-prepared for the upcoming school year.
