Young chefs from COAST School compete in Chopped inspired competition

ST. JAMES, NC (WWAY) — There were some delicacies to die for at a tasty competition in Brunswick County on Thursday.

3 culinary students from the COAST school took part in a competition based on the reality cooking show Chopped.

Each student had 60 minutes to prepare a hot dish they would then serve to the judges.

This is the second time the event has been held at St. James.

It also serves as a fundraiser for the school.

COAST culinary instructor Alisha Pierri said the competition is a great opportunity for the students to overcome new challenges they’ve never experienced before.

“These students have never competed in this event so having the guests standing right up in their way, talking to them, that’s unnerving and can be something they have to focus on,” Pierri said. “So yes, they are applying all of their culinary skills as well.”

Pierri said St. James has shown interest in holding two of these competitions per year moving forward.
