New Netflix show filming in Southport

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) —There’s another film project underway in Southport. The new Netflix show “The Waterfront” is being filmed at a local restaurant. 

The Fishy Fishy Cafe in Southport closed today and will remain closed through Thursday. The city of Southport is a popular film set and it comes with many positive attributes. Filming has boosted the local economy by creating jobs and increasing tourism levels. 

The director of community relations for the city of Southport Allayna Dail discussed some of the pros of filming. 

“As far as visitors go, we have a lot of positive reinforcement behind continuing to be doing these films here in the area. And you would be surprised at the amount of people who I have met you have recently moved here who say they watched one movie, or another couldn’t believe this was a real place, visited, fell in love and decided to move here,” Dail said. 

Dail adds that films such as this one increase the traffic to Southport and bring more people to the visitor center and museum where they discuss the films that were filmed in Southport.
