Snowfall hits parts of the Cape Fear region

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It may be March, but that doesn’t mean the winter weather is gone for good. A light coating of snow fell across the coastal region this morning.

WWAY’s Chief Meteorologist Scott Dean says although this type of snow is typical for the area, it’s unusual to see it happen so late in the season.

According to the National Weather Service at Wilmington, the town of Watha is reporting an inch of snow. Wilmington and Whiteville are also reporting an inch of snow, while Kings Grant is reporting 1.1 inches. Most other areas are expected to see minimal accumulation on cars and grassy areas, but little to no accumulation on the roads.

According to New Hanover County Dispatch, most roads in the area seem clear. However, they say there may be a few slick spots near the roundabouts on River Road in Wilmington.

Columbus County Dispatch noted that although the roads seem to be staying clear, there is quite a bit of accumulation on cars and grassy areas.

Pender County Dispatch, Brunswick County Dispatch and Bladen County Dispatch all reported no issues so far on any roads or bridges.

Please make sure to remove snow from your car before driving and remember to use extra caution on the roads.

The snow is expected to move out by early afternoon and will most likely melt later in the day.
