Ongoing recovery efforts in Cape Fear after Tropical Cyclone

BELVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Many neighborhoods in the Cape Fear region are still in recovery mode following the recent flooding caused by an unnamed tropical cyclone last Monday.

In Stoney Creek Plantation, located in Belville, residents are actively cleaning up and airing out their homes.

Nineteen houses in the back of the neighborhood were affected.

Neighbors and various organizations are stepping up to help residents rebuild their lives.

North Carolina Baptists on Mission are surveying homes to assess needed repairs in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Living Word Church in Winnabow is distributing water and providing lunch for those dedicating their afternoon to cleanup efforts.

Resident Cody Powell highlights the strain on local resources as families continue to recover.

“Dehumidifiers—I had to borrow them from friends. The contractor company hasn’t had them to bring out. Literally, the neighbors’ contracting company offered to give us one. There’s been more than enough volunteer help and people trying to help; the resources are just spread thin and we’re trying to deal as best as we can,” Powell shared.

To address the ongoing recovery efforts, the Town of Leland will host a meeting on Wednesday to discuss future steps for Stoney Creek and similar neighborhoods.
