Lewis Farms opens, sees ‘significant’ blueberry loss
OGDEN, NC (WWAY) — It’s a sure sign of spring! Lewis Farms is now open.
You can get ready picked strawberries, homemade ice cream & plants at the stand in ogden.
It was a busy start to the new season as many customers showed up to this iconic spot.
Mary Nelson and her friend Gail spent the morning filling up every inch of their carts with plants and enjoyed a strawberry sundae.
They said they knew the farm was going to be open today and didn’t want to miss out.
Although they couldn’t pick strawberries themselves Friday, they say they plan to be back.
“You run into people that you know or make good friends by asking other people,” Nelson said. “The people here inside are really good about what to do with the plants and the best plants for your occasion.”
Owner Cal Lewis says recent freezes significantly damaged their blueberry crop, maybe even up to half.
He says he lost some strawberries, but most were saved and will recover.
The stand will be open Monday through Saturday 9-6 p.m. and Sunday 1-6 p.m.
