Battleship celebrates new Wardroom Exhibit

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A new exhibit is open at the USS North Carolina Battleship.

A celebration was held Friday for the opening of the Wardroom Exhibit featuring World War II artifacts.

The battleship and National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Stamp Defiance Chapter came together to make this possible.

The exhibit features two paintings depicting the rescue of downed aviators, a watercolor painting of the ship of the line North Carolina, which first sailed in 1820, and a ceremonial naval sword dating back to the 1830s.

“It’s nice to come in here and see the Stamp’s Defined DAR sign on all of the signs and remember all the hard work we did,” Barbara Anderson, Vice Chair Stamp Defiance Chapter said.

Anderson says the organization is glad to be a part of preserving history. This is one of many ways the organization has donated to the battleship including helping fund the walkway and cofferdam project.

Next time you head to the Battleship you can check it out.
