Britt’s Donuts attracts large crowd to mark new season

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The iconic Britt’s Donut Shop at the Carolina Beach boardwalk is open for another year.

The doors opened around 3 p.m. Friday afternoon to kick off the 78th season.

Britt’s is known for their famous glazed donuts. The business first opened back in 1939.

Bobby Nivens and his wife have owned Britt’s for more than 40 years and they say there are looking forward to another busy season.

“It’s just a wonderful time for everybody because the weather is warming up and people can finally start coming to the beach more and it kind of just brings families together and it’s a you know great tradition,” long time customer Wes Howren said.

The line was long for the opening day but as always that didn’t stop people from waiting in line to be the first to get their hands on a hot fresh donut.

The business will be open only on the weekends until Memorial Day weekend, then they’ll open 7 days a week.
