Lightning strike causes fire on Wrightsville Ave.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Fire Department responded to a fire involving a detached garage behind a home early Thursday morning.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Jon Mason, it happened along the 2500 block of Wrightsville Avenue around 6:30 a.m.

Crews arrived to find the garage in flames along with two vehicles inside the garage. The fire has been extinguished and fire crews will be clearing up soon. Fire investigators say it was caused by a lightning strike.

The 2500 block of Wrightsville Ave. is completely now open again.

No injuries have been reported.
