Harbor Island Garden Club to lease Ewing-Bordeaux Cottage

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Wrightsville Beach has entered into a lease agreement with the Harbor Island Garden Club for the historic Ewing-Bordeaux Cottage, effective September 2024.
Under the lease, the garden club will utilize the cottage through June 2025, according to town officials.
“For more than 70 years, the Harbor Island Garden Club has worked to connect and improve our community. We believe the club will be a great tenant for the Ewing-Bordeaux Cottage, and we are excited to see how they use the space to serve our community,” said Tony Wilson, acting town manager of Wrightsville Beach.
Established in 1952, the Harbor Island Garden Club focuses on community education, beautification, and environmental initiatives throughout the town.
“We are excited about this moment in our club’s history and what it means for the future,” said Vicki Dull, president of the Harbor Island Garden Club. “The cottage will serve as a home base for our club and provide space for us to continue our efforts to support Wrightsville Beach. We look forward to welcoming the community to our new space in the coming months.”
Built in 1924, the Ewing-Bordeaux Cottage is recognized as a local historic landmark. The structure, originally located at 405 North Lumina Ave., survived the Great Fire of 1934 and was moved to its current location at 303 West Salisbury St. in January 2018.
For years, the Wrightsville Beach Museum utilized the cottage to expand its programs, but the Town of Wrightsville Beach evicted the museum in March. The museum still occupies the neighboring Meyers Cottage.
