EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE: Destination Haiti

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) —   Can you imagine selling your home at the beach, boarding a massive boat with a crew of two, and embarking on a mission trip to Haiti? It’s about to happen to a Carolina Beach couple.

We first introduced you to Rick and Teri-Jo Rogge at the end of last year as our Extraordinary Person(s) of the Week.  They have spent much of their lives at sea and about three years ago they decided to commit to a life of mission work.

They are part of Sea Mercy and International Rescue Group, two non-profit organizations that brings health care and other supplies to remote areas of the world as well as devastated 3rd world countries.

We caught up with them on the docks of Carolina Beach before the big trip.  “Everybody keeps coming up and saying wow I can’t believe you are doing this,” Rick told Daniel Seamans.  “Everybody can make a difference. If everyday you made a point of doing just one thing nice for somebody, each day, God’s grace, it’d be beautiful.”

Weather permitting, they plan to leave sometime in the next week and as early as this weekend.  They’ll stop at Florida first to regroup and load more supplies and then it’s off to Haiti.  They say there is no timeline on their return. We’ll be following their journey so look for updates on Good Evening Wilmington, your home for positive stories.
