Residents concerned about flow of traffic for Wells Fargo Championship
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One more weekend until the golf world descends on Wilmington for the Wells Fargo Championship and that leaves a bit of concern for neighbors of Eagle Point Golf Club.
Signs warn of the traffic expected during the Wells Fargo Championship, making it more difficult for people who live in this corner of porters neck to go about their business.
“It’s going to be busy. It’s definitely going to be busy around this area,” Wes Pierce said.
Some have already prepared for the major influx of visitors.
“For us, we’re going to stay close by, and we’re going to go to the grocery store and get stocked up for the week and be here, and if we go anywhere, try to go by boat and not by car,” Pierce said.
“I did some grocery shopping today. Probably do a few things tomorrow, and I’m not really planning to go out very much next week,” Betty Garner said.
Many neighbors believe the area will only get busier as the week goes on and advise visors to be cautious.
“When the tournament officially starts on Thursday, it’s going to be busy Thursday through Sunday. But obviously they get good crowds out for the pro-ams on Monday and Wednesday and some of the practice rounds. So I think it’s going to be busy all week,” Pierce said.
“Be cautious and take your time. Just try not to get in a hurry. Every sign says ‘expect delays,’ and that’s exactly what you need to do,” Garner said.
Residents realize nothing can be done except to deal with what happens.
“We have to go on with our lives, so I just hope I can get out of Porters Neck and get to where I’m going,” Garner said.
