Local kids caddy for the pros at Wells Fargo Championship
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — About two dozen kids had a once in a lifetime experience today.
The kids involved in the First Tee of greater Wilmington got to spend the afternoon caddying for the professional players in the Wells Fargo Championship.
The first tee of greater Wilmington is the tournament’s primary charity for 2017.
Director of player services, Gwen Crow, says this chapter actually just started in Wilmington.
Crow says the organization teaches these children core values and lessons.
Jayla Rogers says she has been playing golf for 7 years.. She was so excited to get to caddy for North Carolina native Webb Simpson today.
“Oh my gosh. It was such a great experience. I never would have thought that I would have the opportunity to meet Webb Simpson let alone caddy for him, so that was an outstanding opportunity and it was very fun,” Rogers said.
The first tee of greater Wilmington actually had a ribbon cutting at their brand new facility at the Wilmington municipal golf course.
Organizers says the kids all have an interest in golf but values come first. Golf comes second.
