Surfside Beach moves forward with plans for new pier
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – Surfside Beach has hired an engineering firm as it makes progress on plans for a new pier and is holding a public meeting.
The Sun News (http://bit.ly/2qDsZQ1 ) reports that the beach selected Collins Engineers of Charleston. The Town Council approved hiring Collins at a meeting Tuesday.
Hurricane Matthew in October had done significant damage to Surfside Pier.
The new pier could be a simple walkway or have a restaurant on it.
A public meeting was being held Saturday morning to discuss plans for a new pier.
