Wilmington Police investigating homicide

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police Department is investigating a homicide that happened Wednesday morning near Wilshire Boulevard.

According to WPD, units were dispatched after a unconscious person was reported in the 4000 block of Wilshire Boulevard.

When the police arrived, they found a 22 year old who had been shot outside near an apartment complex, the victim died from his injuries before the officers arrived.

This is an ongoing investigation and WPD is asking people with any information to contact the them at (910) 343-3600 or use the anonymous Tip 411 app.

If confirmed, this would be the sixth homicide in Wilmington in 2024 so far.

There were 10 homicides in 2023, with 8 of them happening from Jan. 1, 2023 to Sept. 30, 2023.

That means the Port City is doing better on the homicide count in 2024 than in 2023.
