Wilmington nonprofit sends vital supplies to western NC: Here’s where to drop-off
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As communities in western North Carolina grapple with the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, supplies continue to be sent west.
Here in our area, the nonprofit Wilmington Response is sending several trucks filled with supplies to Lenoir, NC. There, they will coordinate with emergency response officials to get supplies to more desolate effected areas.
Vital items like baby formula, medical supplies, food and water were sent off Thursday morning. Dozens of volunteers and businesses including Caldwell Banking and Coastal Carrier are assisting the nonprofit for the operation.
Wilmington Response President Nick Hiteshew noted support from the community makes the mission possible.
“To be honest with you, it would be impossible to do it without. I’ve done this since Hurricane Katrina, and in Harvey, Irma, Maria, we did it as boots on the ground,” Hiteshew said. “We had people out there, we were doing logistics, we were doing support. It takes everybody to get this done.”
Starting Monday, the WWAY station at 1224 Magnolia Village Way, Leland, NC will serve as a supply drop-off location for Wilmington Response.
You can drop off supplies during our regular business hours, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
