Leland man arrested in sexual assault case

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A Leland man is behind bars facing sexual assault charges after an investigation from the Leland Police Department.

According to the town, Chad Lamall Keaton, 38, had been arrested in connection with a sexual assault that occurred on around 2 a.m. on Sept. 11 in the 200 block of Sand Pebble Drive. Leland Police received the report later that morning and obtained warrants for Keaton’s arrest the same day.
Investigators have confirmed Keaton and the 36-year-old female victim had previously been in a relationship.

Keaton has been charged with one count each of second-degree forcible rape, assault by strangulation, first-degree kidnapping, and a domestic violence protection order (DVPO) violation. He is currently being held in the Brunswick County Detention Center under a $150,000 secured bond, as well as a hold for the DVPO violation.
