Bond denied for 16-year-old charged with murder in shooting death


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A judge this morning denied bond for a teenager charged with shooting and killing a man last week in Wilmington.

Jacqual Goodman, 16, made his first court appearance this morning to face charges of first-degree murder and assault by pointing a gun.

WPD spokeswoman Linda Rawley Thompson said officers responded to 1910 Castle Street shortly before 1 a.m. Friday after reports of someone being shot. They found Jackson on the front porch with an apparent gunshot wound.

Jackson’s family said they did not know Goodman.

The New Hanover County Communications Center released the 911 calls from the shooting today. The person who called 911 tells the operator she is the victim’s brother.

911 Caller: “It’s a shooting going on. Somebody tried to rob my brother.”
Operator: “Somebody turned what?”
911 Caller: “Please come. They’re fighting. Please Come.”
Operator: “Who?”
911 Caller: “They shot my brother.”
Operator: “They shot your brother?”
911 Caller: “Yes!”

The 911 operator asked the woman when this happened.

911 Caller: “Just now. I was sleeping. I heard the rumbling.”
Operator: “Okay. What type of weapon was involved?”
911 Caller: “It looked like a handgun. I had my porch light on. The guy came running up and my brother was calling me and I heard the shot.”
