Ribbon cutting held for Novant Health Simulation Lab

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Novant Health held a ribbon cutting for their new simulation lab in Wilmington on Wednesday.

The simulation lab, which will operate out of a renovated bank, will recreate situations to teach medical students the skills needed to become a doctor or nurse.

The lab includes an operating room for simulating surgery, along with other medical equipment to practice ultrasounds, CPR, and live births.

Dr. Joe Pino said the facility allows students to make mistakes and correct them in real time.

“This is a space where one can develop those skills, and successfully look at them critically and improve upon them prior to seeing their first patient,” Pino explained.

The simulation lab will be used by the more than 90 local resident physicians studying all types of medicine from pediatrics to general surgery.
