Burgaw man facing drug, firearms charges following traffic stop

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police say what started as a traffic stop for expired vehicle registration ended with a drug and weapons arrest.
According to the WPD report, task force units pulled over a vehicle near the intersection of Market Street and North 25th Street just after 9:10 pm on Sunday.
Officers reportedly noticed a marijuana smell inside the car and initiated a search. During that search, officers found multiple firearms, more than 83 grams of marijuana, and packaging material.
22-year-old Makai Walker of Burgaw has been charged with Possession With Intent to Manufacture Sell or Distribute Marijuana, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Manufacture Marijuana, Expired Registration Card/Tag, Carrying Concealed Weapon-Gun, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia.
He is being held at the New Hanover County Detention Center with a $10,000 secured bond.
