Pumpkins arrive at St. Paul’s for annual fall tradition

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — It’s that time of year again. Pumpkins are here, and so is the community spirit.
Volunteers at Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church, in Carolina Beach, spent Saturday afternoon unloading a truckload of pumpkins to get their annual pumpkin patch ready for the season.
From grandparents to children, volunteers of all ages carried, stacked and organized pumpkins outside the church. While the work may have been tiring, there’s an important cause behind it.
Pastor Stuart Milton says the pumpkins aren’t just for decoration — the proceeds help provide Christmas gifts for children in need.
“All of the proceeds go to help children during the Christmas time, and it is a great community service. It’s an amazing way that we serve the community and a wonderful way that we enjoy some fellowship together as well.”
The pumpkin patch opens Sunday afternoon, weather permitting. A pumpkin patch party is also set for Oct. 13 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
