Man charged with hitting trick-or-treater with truck makes first court appearance

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man charged with hitting a child on Halloween night with his truck and leaving the scene made his first appearance in court this morning. 

33-year-old Cody Bryan Dunbar was arrested and charged with Felony Hit and Run Friday after he allegedly struck a five-year-old child who was trick-or-treating on Walker Street in Burgaw. 

Dunbar bailed out of his $10,000 dollar secured bond on the same day. 

The judge upheld that bond amount at Dunbar’s first court appearance Monday. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 14. 

The child involved in the alleged hit and run is now out of the hospital and is recovering with his family, according to the Burgaw Police Department.
