New Hanover County groups host job and resource fair for formerly incarcerated people

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Thursday afternoon, a special event was held for recently released prisoners.

LINC Inc. and the Pathway Home 2 program hosted a Second Chance Community event at St. Stephen AME Church.

Attendees were given information about organizations providing housing and employment resources.

There were also several panel discussions with local experts on topics ranging from criminal justice to re-housing.

Jamar Sterling was released from prison less than 3 weeks ago after serving 15 months.

He said having an event like this is very helpful for people trying to get back on the right track.

“It means a lot because when you’re first released, that’s a very critical time and having resources and having places to come to get resources is a very vital part of reentry to society and helping you be successful,” Sterling said.

Sterling added that having resources like this, along with a strong support system, is critical for people who have just gotten out of jail or prison.
