Business as usual for workers in downtown Wilmington on Labor Day
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s Labor Day, a holiday to recognize the contributions of the American worker, but that doesn’t mean everyone has the day off. Plenty of people around the Cape Fear still had to punch the clock Monday.
It was business as usual for many shops and restaurants in downtown Wilmington.
Employees at many of the businesses we checked in on said that they had been busy with customers all day. In fact, it was so busy at Kilwin’s Chocolates that the line was out the door!
The owner at Coastal Vibe, Cindy Schram, tells us she stays open for most of the holidays throughout the year.
“Nurses have to be in the hospitals and we have to be open for folks, but it’s good! We have a lot of business. This year I decided to do a sale, doing a 20 percent off storewide sale through the weekend so it ends tonight,” said Schram.
Schram says she’s been working in retail for years and it’s old hat for her to have to come in on Labor Day, but she says that’s just part of the job.
