Cucalorus Film Festival kicks start day one
This year, 103 films and seven performances are scheduled.
NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY)– The Cucalorus film festival kicked off Thursday night, but if you missed it, it continues for the next three days.
This year, 103 films and seven performances are scheduled. Chicago native Jack Dunphy is the writer and director of the short documentary “Bob’s Funeral,” which will be screened at the festival. The documentary tells the story of an estranged man secretly filming his grandfather’s funeral, hoping to uncover the source of generational trauma in their family.
Dunphy says filmmaking is something he has always wanted to do, and seeing his ideas come to life on screen drives him to continue making more films.
“At its best, it’s an all-immersive art: the sound, the visuals, and everything. I thought about it. I said I was going to do it, and then I did it. I think that end of itself is something to be proud of,” Dunphy said.
Dunphy also says he’s working on a new feature film that’s been eight years in the making.
