Program educates parents on dangers of drugs for adolescents

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Class was in session Saturday at UNCW as parents learned how they can help their kids stay away from drugs.

It was part of Drugs Uncovered, an interactive program put on by the Tri-County Community Collaborative.

It introduced adults to current trends with alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs as well as health risks for adolescents, and more.

Studies have shown that drug abuse is a real problem in the Port City, so the hope is that educating parents and adults can have a positive impact on the youth.

“In Wilmington, of course, we have a big problem with substance use and the answer to that we feel like is providing some information for families to prevent substance use,” said Tri-County Community Collaborative’s Linda Warden.

This is the first year the Tri-County Community Collaborative has organized this event.
