Wilmington woman seeking donations for Maria victims in Puerto Rico

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington woman is collecting donations for her family and others in western Puerto Rico who are still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Maria.

Mimi Campbell has had limited contact with her loved ones in Lajas, Puerto Rico.

She has sent some supplies to them, but is now asking the community to help.

You can donate nonperishable foods, water, over the counter medicine, and more to the victims.

If you want to make a monetary donation, it would be used to cover the expensive shipping costs to the island.

“Every day I wake up and I try not to overwhelm myself with the devastation that they’re going through right now. With me speaking Spanish, I hear the desperation and the pain in their voices,” said Campbell.

The Dunkin Donuts on Carolina Beach Road is assisting Campbell in her mission with a fundraiser on October 21st from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you can’t make it to the fundraiser and you still want to donate, you can contact Campbell directly. Her email address is minerva73080@gmail.com.
