Police investigating robbery on Oleander Dr.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One man is behind bars after police say he robbed a business Sunday morning.

According to Linda Rawley Thompson with Wilmington Police Department, it happened around 9:30 a.m. at the Cellphone Paradise at 1929 Oleander Drive. A man walked into the store, asking for someone to help fix his vehicle. The clerk reportedly gave the man a number to call and the man left.

A short time later, the man returned, angry, and began throwing items in the store. Thompson says he caused around $100 in damage.

The man told the clerk he was going to kill him, then grabbed the cash register and ran out the door.

When officers arrived, they found him at the Food Lion next door.

Kevin Burks, 31, was taken to New Hanover County Jail and charged with common law robbery. He was booked on a $25,000 bond.
