Walmart surveillance photos of possible missing child debunked
JACKSONVILLE, NC (WWAY/WCTI) — The surveillance photos released overnight by the FBI in the case of missing toddler Mariah Woods appear to be a dead end.
The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI released surveillance photos taken at a Morehead City Walmart on Monday morning that showed an adult woman and a little girl. The girl fits the description of missing 3-year-old Mariah Woods.
Our affiliate WCTI spoke exclusively with Jetta Long Wednesday morning. The 23-year-old Newport woman says she is the woman in the surveillance photos released overnight. The young girl in the photos that was said could possibly be Mariah is not — Long says it is her daughter.
Long says she does not know the family of the missing girl and says she is frustrated that this “may have gotten the hopes of the family up.”
Long’s daughter was born with a shortened leg, so she understands how she could have been mistaken for Mariah.
Mariah was last seen the night before, on November 26, when her mother put her to bed. An Amber Alert was issued later in the evening, hours after the little girl was reported missing.
