First-ever Social District in Wilmington begins this Saturday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington’s first-ever Social District kicks off this Saturday in the Brooklyn Arts District. Approved by the City of Wilmington, this new initiative will allow visitors to enjoy beer, wine, and cocktails from participating businesses while exploring the area.

The Social District will be active on three Saturdays in February, from 12 to 5 p.m. To participate, guests can pick up a branded cup from participating businesses. These cups must be marked with a sticker, showing that patrons are approved to move to another spot.

Joe Apkarian, owner of The Eagle’s Dare, believes this initiative is about more than enjoying a drink.

“I think it’s more about just fostering a social district where you are walking around, you are engaging more than just going to a place, once you are there leave and go to another place you are fostering walking and developing that community sense.”

This pilot program will continue with two more events this month, including a benefit event and a Valentine’s Day stroll.
