Special Olympics hosts annual Polar Plunge in Kure Beach
KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Special Olympics Polar Plunge was held in Kure Beach Saturday. The Polar Plunge is an annual event that raises money for the Special Olympics.
This year’s event included a raffle and auction, 5k and one mile walk, and of course—a plunge which hundreds of people participated in.
100% of the event’s proceeds go back to the Special Olympics’ 27 sports, two county-wide event days, five dances a year, social events, and more.
Coordinator Brooke Deamaral said the event continues to grow each year.
“We’ve just blown up the last couple years. People really want to show that they are dedicated to our athletes, and this is a really fun way to show that we are willing to come out and push ourselves outside of our comfort zones.”
Deamaral added that this year’s event helped raise more than $122,000, but there’s still time to donate. Head to specialolympicsnhc.com to make a donation.
