National Black Leadership Caucus honors victims of plane crashes
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County chapter of the National Black Leadership Caucus honored the victims of recent plane crashes Tuesday morning.
During their press conference, which also condemned President Donald Trump’s rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, a moment of silence was held for the 67 people killed in the American Airlines and US Army Blackhawk collision over the Potomac River and the six victims of a med-jet crash in north Philadelphia.
New Hanover County NAACP president LeRon Montgomery emphasized the importance of remembering the victims without politicizing the tragedies.
“It shouldn’t be made into a political issue, someone losing their life should not be brought up in response to a DEI situation,” Montgomery said. “But we pause to remember those and those families who are going through trying times.”
The investigations by the National Transportation Safety Board into both crashes are still ongoing.
