CFCC’s Junior Sea Devils Cheer Clinic
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On Saturday, Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) hosted its second annual Junior Sea Devils Cheer Clinic, where young cheerleaders had the chance to learn new skills alongside the CFCC cheer team. The clinic, held at the Joe & Barbara Schwartz Center, welcomed children ages 6 to 12 to experience a day of sideline cheers, stunts, tumbling, and dancing.
Participants were treated to a full day of cheerleading activities, including learning a cheer routine and practicing stunts in preparation for a halftime performance during the CFCC Men’s Basketball game against Denmark Tech later that afternoon. Each participant also received four complimentary tickets to the basketball game, where they showed off their new skills.
Shannon Gunter, CFCC’s cheerleading coach, shared her thoughts on what she hopes the young athletes gain from the experience. “It’s been really nice seeing some of these first-timers and some of the younger children come in being very nervous and not knowing if they can do it. We’ve even had a few meltdowns this morning that we took care of, but seeing them be confident and the big smiles on their faces when they are achieving what they want to achieve… So just growth and confidence is what we hope for them,” she said.
The Junior Sea Devils Cheer Clinic was an opportunity for young cheerleaders to improve their skills and confidence while connecting with the CFCC cheer team.
