Wilmington councilmember has hope for the Brooklyn Arts social district program
"It has been a resounding success. It's been one of the coolest things I've been involved in on the council."
NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY)–Last Saturday in Wilmington marked the wrap-up of the three-week social district pilot program in the Brooklyn Arts District.
Wilmington city councilman Luke Waddell says the pilot program has been going well.
He says businesses have been benefiting the most- with some saying they’ve doubled — or even tripled — their profits. Waddell foresees the social district being a permanent thing.
“It has been a resounding success. It’s been one of the coolest things I’ve been involved in on the council. I’ve only been able to go to two of the three. I went to the first one and the last one this past Saturday. I took my wife and 2-year-old son. There were kids and dogs everywhere. It was genuinely a fun and happy experience,” Waddell shared.
Waddell says city council will gather data from the pilot program next and hopes the council will make a unanimous decision.
