New Hanover Endowment awards grant to childhood cancer nonprofit
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A nonprofit dedicated to helping children battling cancer received a grant from the New Hanover Community Endowment Thursday.
Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas received a grant of $199,000 from the endowment.
CCP provides services like transportation to treatments out of town, free lodging, financial assistance, and other support to the families of children battling cancer.
CCP Executive Director Laura Allen said she is grateful for the grant, which will help the nonprofit continue its mission.
“The children who are in New Hanover County, who are in the Cape Fear Area, need to travel distance to get to treatments. They’re going to Duke or UNC, maybe they’re going to ECU, and there’s often times we have to help children get out of state because not every option is available in state.”
Allen added the organization receives around 40 family referrals from hospitals every month.
