Thousands participate in Novant Health Wilmington Marathon

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On Saturday, nearly 5,000 people participated in the Novant Health Wilmington Marathon. The race began at Johnnie Mercer’s Pier in Wrightsville Beach and finished at Live Oak Bank Pavilion in downtown Wilmington.

One of the participants, Laura, took part in the relay option with her friends. Running together has become a tradition for them. “We did one last year in a different location and thought, ‘Ooo, the beach would be fun.’ It’s just a good excuse to get away and enjoy being together,” Laura said.

A standout moment of the race was the meet-up just before the finish line, where runners could finish together. “That was a really nice feature of this race, and we put on matching suits as we crossed the line,” Laura added.
