Fix-A-Friend Clinic restoration update

WINNABOW, NC  (WWAY) — A veterinary clinic in Brunswick County is undergoing a major renovation aimed at protecting it from future flooding. The Fix-A-Friend Spray Neuter Clinic was severely damaged by flooding from a potential tropical cyclone in September 2024.

The intense flooding left the clinic underwater, but since then, significant repairs have been made. The clinic is now being raised more than six feet above ground level to better prepare for any future storms.

For Rebecca Leonard, the clinic’s assistant manager, this renovation provides much-needed peace of mind.

“Knowing that we will still be able to continue giving services to the community even if a little bit of flooding happens here again, we are not going to have to close our doors for an extended period of time,” Leonard said.

Currently, the clinic is operating outside, accepting a limited number of animals. Leonard hopes to move back inside by April or May of this year, once the renovation is complete.
