Wilmington cop on leave after alleged domestic incident
LELAND, NC (WWAY) – A Wilmington Police Department officer is facing charges in relation to a domestic situation in Leland.
According to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, the alleged victim took out a warrant.
In the affidavit, the woman claims Michael Christopher Scott was threatening her and damaged her property.
The woman alleges that Scott claimed he would “f*** her up” or “beat her up”. This stemming from an argument the victim said she had with Scott on Friday morning. She then claims she went back to the Leland home the next day to get some of her belongings. The victim claims that Scott broke picture frames and had left her clothes outside on the patio table.
According to the arrest warrant, Scott was charged with communicating threats as well as injury to personal property.
Scott posted a $500 unsecured bond and is to not make contact with the victim. He is scheduled to be in court March 8.
A Wilmington Police Department spokeswoman confirmed that Scott was assigned as a school resource officer at Hoggard High School.
He is on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the charges. There is also an internal affairs investigation underway.
Scott was hired in 2013. He was promoted from a police trainee to a police officer in 2014.
