Jury returns guilty verdict for second defendant in UNCW student’s beating death

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A jury returned a guilty verdict for the second defendant in the beating death of a UNCW student.
According to a press release, the judge sentenced Brandon Chambers, 26, to life in prison for first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy.
The district attorney’s office claims Chambers, his girlfriend Myasia Moragne, and her brother Raymond Brooks conspired to draw Christopher Stewart, 23, to a park in the Rocky Point area on March 27th, 2020.
Stewart was a military veteran and was enrolled at UNCW at the time. He was going to meet Moragne in person after connecting online through a dating app.
When he arrived at the park, he was ambushed by Brooks and Chambers, who beat him to death with a pipe.
Brooks was found guilty in March of 2023. Moragne’s case will be addressed later this month.
