Grab a shamrock or participate in the Muscle Walk to support MDA
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Muscular Dystrophy Association is fighting every day to free individuals — and the families who love them — from the harmful effects of muscle-debilitating diseases so they can live longer and grow stronger.
There are multiple ways you can get involved with MDA and make a difference in our community.
Right now, the MDA Shamrocks program is underway. According to a release, retailers invite customers to add a paper shamrock to their purchase for a donation of $1 or more. All donations benefit MDA.
Locally, you can help the Shamrock program at the Han-Dee Hugo’s at 5002 Market Street and Han-Dee Hugo’s at 5629 Carolina Beach Road. Other locations around the area include Bojangles, Papa Murphy’s, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, McAlister’s Deli and more.

On Saturday, March 10, the community will come together for the 2018 MDA Muscle Walk of Wilmington.
The annual Muscle Walk is a way for everyone to come together to raise awareness and funds for MDA. This year’s walk includes a 3K–5K route designed for participants of all ages and abilities, including a wheelchair and equipment-friendly course.
“There are kids and adults in our community living with muscular dystrophy and related diseases that take away everyday abilities like walking, hugging and even breathing,” said MDA Fundraising Coordinator Angelica Hickey. “When you support the MDA Muscle Walk of Wilmington, you can help change that by helping us fund urgently-needed research, treatments and support that will help these individuals live longer and grow stronger.”
The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Hugh MacRae Park and will feature food, fun, live music and games.
