Wilmington man faces gun, drug charges after traffic stop

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is facing multiple firearm and drug charges after running from a traffic stop early Friday morning, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

Just after midnight, officers stopped a vehicle in the 500 block of Maides Avenue for an expired registration. The driver ran off but was arrested shortly after, police said.

According to a news release, officers found cocaine, marijuana, and a firearm during the arrest.

The driver, Jamel Williams, 31, of Wilmington, is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon, felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting, delaying, or obstructing officers, among other offenses.

He is being held at the New Hanover County Detention Center on a $105,000 secured bond.
