Two people charged after deadly crash in Leland

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County Sheriff’s Deputy is one of two people charged with the death of a Chick-Fil-A worker in a crash on Highway 17 in Leland.
District attorney Jon David says Sergeant Nathan Kye of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to stop at a red light.
On the morning of February 18th, Kye was speeding north on Highway 17 at the same time Cora Cartrette was making a turn onto Ploof Road.
She was killed in the crash.
Kye was responding to assist another deputy who was allegedly chasing a vehicle driven by Antoine Graham near Blackwell Road.
Graham has been indicted by a grand jury for felony speed to elude arrest with aggravators causing death, felony identity theft, driving while impaired, driving while license revoked (not impaired revocation), reckless driving to endanger, resisting a public officer, possession of marijuana up to ½ ounce, and failure to maintain lane control.
