Local petition calls for 5 PM free parking at Wrightsville Beach

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC — Paid parking season is back for New Hanover County beaches, and some residents of Wrightsville Beach are pushing for a change.

A petition circulating on social media is asking to restore free parking after 5 PM, changing the current 7 PM cutoff.

With nearly 9,000 signatures, the petition has gained considerable traction.

We went to Wrightsville Beach today to hear what residents think about restoring the 5 PM cutoff.

Resident Val Stetler doesn’t understand why the town wouldn’t consider this change.

“I do think it’s a good idea, especially for the people that live here. I know the people who live here have to deal with the traffic—that’s why I ride my bike all the time.  I don’t know what kind of hit the municipality would take with the difference, though. That would probably inform the argument a little bit.”

The petition will be presented at the Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen meeting on Thursday, April 10th.
