Myrtle Beach man arrested for ramming driver he thought was drunk
Myrtle Beach, S.C. (WPDE) — A Myrtle Beach man was arrested after police say he rammed a truck with his own car because he believed the driver of the truck was intoxicated.
Lewis Edward Pipher, 48, of Myrtle Beach, is charged with damaging personal property, assault and battery, and resisting arrest.
He reportedly flagged down a Myrtle Beach police officer near the corner of N. Ocean Boulevard and Mr. Joe White Avenue on Tuesday night.
The “very excited offender” reported what he believed to be an intoxicated driver in a truck in the area near the Landmark Resort, according to a police report.
That officer, who was working another call, called dispatch to have another officer meet the man at the resort about the possibly intoxicated driver, the report stated.
But, when the responding officer got there, he saw a man out on the sidewalk with resort security officers and a green Ford car parked a few feet behind them.
The officer asked what happened and the man “yelled out that he had rammed the truck of the ‘intoxicated’ driver at the Landmark because police did not respond quickly enough,” the report stated.
Another officer met with the “quite sober victim,” according to the report, and a woman who was the passenger in the truck who said they had almost collided with the green Ford earlier in the night and “apologized immediately after. She reports the offender leaving only to return enraged.”
She said the man collided with their truck and tried to run over the driver when he got out.
Surveillance footage recorded the incident and corroborated the accounts of the victim and witness, according to the report.
