Boiling Spring Lakes to settle lawsuit filed by developer of Highlands community

BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WWAY) — The City of Boiling Spring Lakes will settle a lawsuit brought forth by the developers of the Highlands community, which was hit hard by Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 back in September.

Some homes had more than a foot of water inside them.

During an emergency meeting held in October, the developers, Dominion Land Corp. and Logan Developers, Inc, claimed city leaders spread false information to residents affected by the flooding.

Boiling Spring Lakes Mayor Jeff Winecoff said the city and developers will work together to prevent similar situations from happening in the future.

“Its for us to work together to create where there’s more flow for the stormwater,” Winecoff said. “And that’s what we did. We came up with what we needed to do together, to work together, to get this done.”

The exact details of the settlement are expected to be released sometime this week.
