UNCW GameCon 2025 brings gamers together

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW GameCon 2025 drew a crowd of gamers, both casual and competitive, to the Watson Education Building at the University of North Carolina Wilmington on Saturday. The event, which was free and open to the public, offered something for everyone, whether they were die-hard gamers or just in it for fun.

Attendees had the chance to take part in several events, including Dungeons & Dragons Rumbles, a cosplay competition, and both amateur and professional tournaments. The event showcased a wide range of games for participants to enjoy.

One of the key attractions was the C3 Rocket League Tournament Finals, where college-aged gamers from various schools competed for the top spot.

Michael Harney and Nick Crane, UNCW students and members of UNCW Esports, shared their excitement about the event and the sense of community it fosters.

As Harney explained, “There are so many different events and games that you can just go and play with someone you may not know—and you don’t have to know them! You could make a new friend.”

Crane added, “We are all here for the same reason—to meet people, play games, and do what we love together. Everyone is welcome.”

GameCon is an annual event that aims to provide an inclusive space for gamers to connect and enjoy their passion.
