Wilmington Early College seniors honored with drive-thru ceremony
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)–A honk of the horn put high school in the rear view mirror for students at the Wilmington Early College High School on Friday night. Over 50 students walked across the stage to receive their diplomas after years of hard work.
“I was really excited to have it cause its been a really long time coming”says Class of 2020 graduate Taleeyah Perry. “I did five years instead of four and it was very stressful. So, I’m just relieved.”‘
Graduation is something that these students have been working towards since they can remember. They say it wouldn’t have been possible to get where they are now without the held and support of their fellow classmates.
“Honestly all of my peers helping me with classes and stuff was huge to me,”said Wilmington Early College graduate Kylie Hobgood. “I was just looking towards the future and knowing exactly what I wanted to do.”
While it may not have been the big graduation celebration they were hoping for before the coronavirus, but they say today was still special. It gave them a feeling that they won’t soon forget.
“It wasn’t the way I expected it, but I got the graduation feeling I was hoping for.”
